Get to Know the Box!

The CrossFit Gym (also known as The Box) can be an intimidating place at first. There are a lot of whiteboards and nasty looking pieces of equipment that make it hard to figure out what everything means. So, here’s a quick little tour of the Box at CrossFit Intensify to help you figure out what the heck is going on:

1) The Main Whiteboard!

Smack dab in the middle of the gym you’ll find the main whiteboard. The Workout of the Day (WOD) is written on the left side of this board each and every day. The member names from each class are then written in different colors going down the middle of the board. Once the class is finished each member’s score from the workout is written next to their name, complete with notes on how they modified or scaled the workout or if they did it as prescribed (Rx).

2) The Kids Area!

A safe and fun area to leave your kids while you workout. There are some toys and a TV including a Wii for the older ones. Monday-Friday at 9:30am Christy and Katie T volunteer to watch the kids too so you can have a little peace of mind while you get your WOD on!

3) The Member Board!

On the North wall you’ll find the member board. Each CrossFit Intensify member gets a slot up on this board complete with their name, picture, and space to write up their goals. Use this board to learn the faces and names of your fellow CrossFitters. Also, write down whatever goals you have in your member slot. Just try to make them measurable, obtainable, specific, and challenging.

4) The Personal Record Board and Benchmark Leaderboard!

Further down on the North wall you’ll find the Personal Record board (bottom half) and Benchmark Leaderboard (top half). The PR board lists many of the major lifts of CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting as well as many gymnastics- or endurance-based exercises. Whenever you complete an exercise at Max Effort (for example, a max deadlift, 3-rep max power clean, max continuous pull-ups, 400 meter max sprint, etc.), write down your results on this board. One of our members, CJ Franks, will write your score neatly with the others, so just feel free to throw up your score. The leaderboard (the top half) is used to track the top 5 male and female scores on some of our infamous Benchmark Workouts. It’s an extremely difficult achievement, but once you perform a top 5 score, write it up on the board and CJ will update our top 5 with your name in it!

5) Beyond The Whiteboard Computers!

At the front desk you’ll find computers to help you easily post your scores and results to your Beyond the Whiteboard online workout log right after your class. For more information on Beyond the Whiteboard, please see our How to Use BTWB page.

6) Member Cubbies and Lockers!

Near the North bathroom you’ll find small member cubbies. Simply grab a piece of tape with your name on it and claim a small cubby for free and easy storage of your CrossFit gear like jump ropes, tape, braces, or gloves. Near the South bathroom, you’ll find box lockers. Grab a piece of tape and claim one of these box lockers. Provide your own lock. With this box locker you can safely store all your CrossFit gear and accessories at the gym.

7) Member Feedback Box!

This little box at the front desk is where you can drop us anonymous feedback on your experience at CFI. We value the feedback of each and every member. This club and gym is yours and we want you to have the best possible experience. Please leave us a note with comment or suggestion of any kind. We’d love to hear from you.

8) Sanitation Station!

Please use the paper towls, sanitation spray and hand sanitizer to clean your equipment after each workout. We pride ourselves in a clean and sanitary Box. Thanks for your help.

9) Member Fridge!

This member fridge is open for use by members during their workouts. Got a protein shake or post-workout meal that needs to stay cold? Stick it in here while you workout. Just remember perishable items left longer than one day will be thrown out.

As always, if you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask a CFI coach or member for more information. We’re more than happy to help!
