Real Life-Changing Stories from CFI Members
From – Dawn Fisher, 52 year old PeaceHealth Employee
“April 2011, my 51st birthday was only weeks away. I was 40 lbs overweight, tired, and feeling old. I was working in the emergency department and everyday I was seeing younger and younger people coming in with strokes and heart attacks. I realized this could be me if I didnʼt do something; I couldnʼt control my genetics but I could control my weight, fitness, and eating habits. As I was walking out of work that day I happened to look at one of the bulletin boards hanging in the hall and there was a flyer from Crossfit Intensify. I thought it looked different and very interesting. I took the flyer home. That flyer sat on my coffee table for a week. I finally got the nerve to call; Zach answered the phone and he was amazing. Zach encouraged me to come in and see what Crossfit was all about. I made an appointment.
I went in to see Zach for the first time. Zach said “Weʼll do a little test to see where we need to go. Iʼll have you do some rowing, squats, situps, pushups, and pull-ups.” I looked at Zach and said “I canʼt do a pull-up!” Zach told me not to worry. I thought “What the heck, just do it!” I did the “baseline” and signed up.
Zach likes to laugh and tell me how for the first few months I would walk around clutching my water bottle for dear life. He was right, I was terrified. But, eventually I started to see myself get stronger and I began to feel better. The coaches and members were there supporting and encouraging me every single workout. There was one workout early in my membership that I felt like I was not going to be able to finish; Annie and Jasmine got on the floor and did burpees with me supporting me and I did it. I couldnʼt have done it without them. That is how amazing this place is.Zach then introduced me to Paleo eating. I have lost 40lbs and now I can do real pull-ups and push ups!Crossfit Intensify has changed my life. It is a year later and I am only weeks away from my 52nd birthday and I can say I am fitter than I was when I was 25. I no longer feel old or tired. I am absolutely in love with Crossfit and will never quit. Thanks to Zach (and all my other Crossfit family members, I love you all!!) I am healthy, happy, fit, and proud of who I have become. Crossfit Intensify is not just a gym or a workout, it is a family and a way of life.”
“I had always admired the athletes I would cheer from the sidelines but imagined it was a world beyond my reach, that athleticism was a gift you were born with or without and in my case, it was the latter. I played few sports here and there as I was growing up but nothing for more than a season or two and I had few active role models.Fast-forward to age 18 when I enlisted in the Air Force. Basic training was no problem, I got by mostly on adrenaline and though I openly dreaded the Obstacle Course, in the end it was the highlight. After basic, I became a PT peer-trainer, running the hills and seasides of the Monterey Peninsula. I called cadence while running a formation of Airmen and found that I wasn’t so un-athletic after all.Career aspirations, starting a family, returning to school as a single parent and medical issues meant many years of neglecting my physical well-being. From big box gym memberships to dance classes and exercise videos, nothing took root to undo the ingrained habit of inactivity. A poor understanding of what qualifies as nourishment and a generally sedentary lifestyle meant that the numbers on the scale had crept up as well.Something had to give. I started looking for inspiration, a different way to think about health. A new friend told me about CrossFit and asked if I would try it with her. We did one day of The Basics Course at CFI and I was hooked! It’s taken some small adjustments to learn to like to sweat again, to measure progress in pounds on the bar and repetitions or rounds completed instead of body fat percentage or weight decreasing. I have seen the results that come to those who persist and I want to be one of them. I never have to look far for inspiration at Intensify, whether it’s someone powering through physical limitations or a future or present competitor, we come to the box as we are and leave a little bit healthier, one day at a time.”

“Hello! My name is Christine Adams and I started Crossfit on June 11th 2011 and that was the first day that I changed my life. I remember walking in and thinking, what the heck am I going to do here…there is NOTHING!! When Andrew told me I would be doing “baseline” and that it consisted of 500m Row, 40 air squats, 30 sit ups, 20 push ups and 10 pull ups, I thought “This guy is nuts. How and am I going to get out of here without him noticing?” I weighed in at 198lbs and was in bad shape. I had a baby in August 2010 but I had not lost any of the baby weight. I was unhappy and unhealthy! I knew that if I left I would be making a huge mistake! Scared was an understatement. I was TERRIFIED!!! I looked at Megan (my friend) and said, “I can’t do half of what he just told me to do!” She looked at me and said “You can do this! If I can, you can.” She made me believe that I was able to do what I thought I couldn’t. I remember feeling like throwing up when Andrew was counting down 3,2,1 GO! And to my surprise I finished it. It was the hardest thing (next to having a child) that I’ve ever had to do in my life.
After 20 minutes of recovering I realized that I was addicted already and I could not look back. I was a size 16 when I started on that sunny day in June and three months later, after going 3-5 times a week with Zach and Andrew yelling at me to “Get up!” and “keep going! You got this!” I was down to 160lbs and a size 8. IN THREE MONTHS!!! I was so happy I could not believe that I had accompished so much in such a short period of time. I did change everything about me. I didn’t eat the crap I used to (whole pies, no joke) and I started playing with my son more and taking my dogs on walks. My whole life changed. People started to notice that I was loosing weight and smiling a lot more. I felt amazing! I could not believe that I did not do this sooner. I was lifting heavy weight and feeling like I was on top of the world. I did the paleo challenge and lost 7 more lbs. It was amazing to me how much this program could change me. I was sooo lazy before and now I could do anything.
Then, in December I noticed that I was feeling very weak and I didn’t want to say anything because I thought I was getting sick. January came and I felt even weaker than I did in December. Zach also noticed that I was unable to keep up or do certain things I was able to do just months before. He asked me if everything was alright and if I was feeling ok. I shared with him about how I was feeling weak and maybe it was because of the paleo challenge. He suggested that I go to the doctor and get tested. Maybe it was my back flaring up again? (I had a back injury in 2004). I went to the doctor and he said that he could not find anything but he was going to refer me to an orthopedic doctor. I ended up going through 2 MRI’s and they found nothing, but they said that my weakness was alarming. They sent me to yet another doctor (a rebihilitation doctor), who did more tests (a lot more) and found that I had a neuropothy and that I should see a specialist. I went to a neuorlogist in May and had a spinal tap. Meanwhile, I tried to stick with CrossFit becuase I knew that it was making me strong and keeping me healthy. Finally one day Zach said he was concerned about my health and wanted me to take a break from CrossFit until I figured out what was going on. I was SO SAD but I knew that I needed to get healthy. On June 11th 2012 I got diaginosed with CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, I know it’s a long name and not fun to say). In a nut shell, my body was slowly paralizing itself. I was put on meds and started infusions right away and I slowly got better. I was able to start back at CrossFit in July and with Zach’s help I got back into the program gradually because I didn’t want to harm my body. I am excited to say that I am back to what I was able to do before this disease. Just this last Friday I push pressed 95 pounds 3 times and my 1-rep max before I got sick was 100 pounds. This made me feel like a million bucks! I am doing what I was able to do and getting even bigger personal records now than ever before. I am thankful I had CrossFit to show me that I was sick and now to have it again to get healthy and back in shape.
I also feel that the people at CrossFit Intensify are one of a kind. I was also going through a divorce at the same time that I was being diagniosed. This was very hard on me emotionally as well as physically. My life was falling apart and the people at CrossFit Intensify lifted me up and helped me in more ways than I could imagine. They were there for me and helped me believe that I would overcome this hard time. I was inspired by my CrossFit friends and that made me not want to give up. I battle this everyday and some days are easier than others but every time I step into the Box I can feel stronger and better. It is the best thing that has happened to me and I am a very different person from June 11th 2011. I thank everyone that has helped me become who I am today and I will never look back because of this gym.
Please if you ever think that you can’t do something because you are sick or too fat or having a hard time in life, get into CFI and leave it out on the floor with your sweat because nothing will make you feel better than going to THIS gym. All I can say is, Thank you! ”

“Before joining Crossfit I wasn’t able to stick with an exercise program for more than a couple of weeks. I was seriously out of shape and getting older, making it harder and harder to lose the weight or even to just maintain my strength. My health started to deteriorate and simple physical activities were becoming more and more difficult. As I turned 40 I knew I had to make some serious changes. I thought I knew how to do that but I went from one fitness program to another for a couple of years with little or no benefit.
Then a very good friend suggested I give Crossfit a try. I did some research on it and realized it incorporated all of the best advice I was getting into one low monthly payment and it included both coaches and community as well as nutritional advice. I made my first appointment with Crossfit Intensify and on my first day I did my baseline workout and was hooked. A year later and I’m healthier than I’ve ever been in my life. I’m regaining my strength and losing body fat and can do things I’ve never been able to do without serious effort or injury. I’ve learned a whole new way of talking about and measuring fitness.
When they say Crossfit Intensify offers life changing fitness they’re not exaggerating. Zach and Andrew and the rest of the coaches and community at CFI are some of the most knowledgeable and supportive people I’ve ever met and it’s a sheer pleasure to come in nearly every day of the week to work myself into a sweaty puddle, gasping for breath. I’ve never been happier.”

“Annie Mac’s stats…
285#, teacher, mother of three, failed dieter for 20 years, socially isolated, sad, earth bound, pull up count (0), box jump height (2″).
185#, teacher, CrossFit Level 1 trainer at CrossFit Intensify, dedicated CrossFitter for 2 years, mother of three inspired future CrossFitters, huge community of support, loves lifting heavy things over head, pretty much stoked every day, rope climbs (yes, but it scares the pants off of me!), pull up count (loads!), box jump height (20″). Boom.”

“I just wanted to say thank you! I’ve been looking around at the other crossfit websites and quite frankly, they suck. I am really impressed with how user friendly the CrossFit Intensify website is. And it includes all the right information. Some of the other websites didn’t even include pricing. Crossfit Intensify is the only one that is affordable (none of that 3xweek membership BS) and CFI has the most available workout times. I’m surprised at how few sessions the other CrossFits have available. Again, I love Zach and Andrew and couldn’t be happier with how everything is done around here. Zach and Andrew know what they’re doing and it really shows. Keep up the great work. I can say that I am super proud to be a part of the CFI crossfit team. I love all the people at our gym and I think we have the best coaches. Zach and Andrew have always been there for me and because of them, I have gained so much. I no longer look at myself as the fat ugly girl who isn’t good enough (ok, well I still think that sometimes, but I’m getting better). Because of CrossFit I am realizing that I am strong. I can do the things that I wanted to for so long but never had encouragement to do. Because of Zach and Andrew I have lost about 22 pounds so far, I’m down 1 pant size (almost 2), I can deadlift more than my bodyweight, I have finally ran a 5k (one of my dreams when I started!!) and I actually like myself. Growing up I never did. I was always the fat kid or the girl no one cared about. Thank you for making my life worth living. I now have dreams that I can attain through continued training at CrossFit. You really have changed me in a way you may never realize. There is a spark in me that will set fire to flames because I know that you guys care about my progress and will push me to my limits and beyond. Thank you Zach and Thank you Andrew. You guys mean a lot to me. I didn’t know Zach or Andrew that well in middle/high school (we went to the same school) but I’m glad I’ve gotten the chance to know them now. They are doing amazing things and I’m really proud of them. They have one of the best jobs anyone could have. Inspiring people and seeing their dreams and goals come to fruition. I wish them both the best. Thank you guys!”

“My marriage to CrossFit began a year and a half ago after a few enthusiastic coworkers talked me into giving it a shot. At that point I was 21 years old and horribly out of shape. Years of inactivity, which included the typical college behavior of drinking and another love affair with fast food, had left me with little athletic prowess. The night before my first workout I was sick with anxiety having no idea what to expect and little confidence in my abilities to keep up, much less perform. It only took one session out of what was then the garage gym for me to know that I’d eventually become hooked. When CrossFit Intensify opened up in August 2010 I was ready to give it a shot and really commit to getting into shape. Of course it was a work in progress. The first month and a half I discovered that I couldn’t even run a full 400m without stopping for a rest. I could barely power clean 55 lbs and holding a handstand seemed insane. It only took about a month of consistent CrossFitting and some good coaching for all of those things to change. A year and a half later I am a completely different person, a change, in my mind, which has absolutely been for the better. Not only did CrossFit Intensify change my attitude about fitness and health but it changed my attitude about myself. Confident, dedicated, and disciplined were adjectives I would have never used to describe myself before this program. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have found this gym during this phase of my life. It has been undeniably worth every penny to gain so much self-esteem and the friendships that CrossFit Intensify has brought me. Although my fitness is still, and will always be, a work in progress, I still look forward to it more and more each day. Thank you Zach, Andrew and all of the CFI coaches for running such a great program and encouraging us all everyday!”

“I am thankful that I have joined CrossFit. I do lack a fondness of burpees, but I am happy to report that when I went to Seal Beach to go surfing I was able to pop up quickly. I asked my surf instructor what is the best gym exercise I could do to help me surf. He said burpees. Karma…
Although there are times that I would like to physically hurt Zach and Andrew, now that I can actually be vertical surfing, I will overlook their militant pushing and remember it is for a bigger cause.”

“For years, I exercised at home. A few years ago I joined a gym. I enjoyed the classes at the gym (hated the limited times they were offered) and felt like my body was about as fit as it could get. I felt like doing classes at the gym was helping me maintain and stay healthy.
I was skeptical about CrossFit. It seemed expensive to me and I felt like the hour long classes I was doing at the gym were just as good. My husband had joined CrossFit and was getting amazing results. I decided to try CrossFit Intensify for one month.
At Crossfit Intensify, I began to see results right away. My posture and confidence improved. I loved recording each workout and tracking my progress. My body began reshaping during that first month.
For the first time in my life I feel strong. I have discovered that I can do more than I ever imagined. I have been completely blown away with CrossFit Intensify. The owners, Zach and Andrew, are great coaches. They really want to help each member reach their goals and improve their lives. I feel like CrossFit Intensify is an incredible value and worth every dime. I can’t imagine doing anything else. My body looks the best it’s ever looked and more importantly, my body can do more than ever before!”

“I’ve never worked out. In fact I have a very damaged knee from two knee surgeries and have avoided strenuous activity or workouts.
In the spring of 2010 Zach (my son) and Andrew came to me to talk about this CrossFit gym idea. I suggested they pull a business plan together because they both loved it. I’ve learned over the years that when people combine what they are passionate about with a business they are successful. So, my baby boy and Andrew Crippen, his long-time friend, are changing people’s lives and living the dream. Life isn’t much better for a mom — happy kids with great friends…
Oh, well, except that now that I am 51: I’ve lost 25 pounds in three months, I’m in the best shape of my life, I sleep at night, my blood pressure and blood work is all normal and I feel better about life. Indeed, CrossFit Intensify has changed my life – all for the better.
I am very, very grateful that Zach, Andrew and Ben have been so encouraging. The atmosphere they create at the gym is good for all levels of athletes (even older women without athletic skills and expertise), even those novices like me.
CFI is changing the world by helping people change their lives through fitness, one person at a time. I feel very lucky that I’m one of those people.”

“I have always been a fairly active person, but was never fully satisfied with the results I was getting. I always felt like something was missing. Aside from hiking and running, my trips to the ‘regular’ gym felt like a chore and made me easily bored. When a friend of mine told me she had joined CrossFit, it sounded like it was totally up my alley. Different exercises every day with coaches to teach technique. Unfortunately, I created a bunch of excuses for not joining and it took me a good 6 months before I committed myself to this new lifestyle change.
Words cannot describe how amazing this decision was. My only regret now is that I didn’t sign up sooner! I feel like a completely different person. I just passed my 3 month mark, and I am continually amazed at how much I have progressed. Each week I notice improvements. Not only can I see the changes, but I feel like such a stronger person (both inside and out). My confidence level is much higher, I have way more energy, and I find myself replacing “I can’t” with “I will” much more regularly. I actually get excited about finding out what the next day’s workout is going to be. Imagine that!
Our coaches are absolutely phenomenal. They are very friendly, helpful, supportive, encouraging…what more can I say?! Even when you come in on an ‘off’ day, they somehow know how to turn your mood around and you end up doing much more than you originally thought you could. The CFI community is extremely friendly and supportive. I have met so many great people and made new friends. They, along with the coaches, are always there to cheer you on and help you reach your goals.
Thank you, CFI!”

“At the age of 14 I weighed a hefty 285 pounds, participated in no fitness activity, and my diet consisted of 4000-6000 calories a day (and not the good calories either). While I eventually shed the extreme habits that led to my obese lifestyle, I still battled daily to find a fitness program that worked for me. Ultimately, this resulted in significant fluctuations in my weight throughout the years. That is until I joined Crossfit Intensify. The moment I walked through the front door, it was as if all my previous troubles with finding a fitness program melted away. Zach and Andrew’s passion for CrossFit is so contagious that I couldn’t help but follow in their footsteps. On top of that, Zach and Andrew’s passion for living a healthy lifestyle became so infectious that it motivated me to change my diet as well. In one fell swoop I had found a balance in my diet and fitness regimen. Until joining CrossFit, the idea of living a life where my diet and exercise program were in perfect harmony was an unobtainable dream. The team at Crossfit Intensify made an investment in me, and didn’t stop until that dream became reality. And trust me the return on investment far exceeded my expectations.
More importantly, no longer did I workout to “lose weight”. Now it was about improving performance and pushing myself to new heights. I truly can jump higher, run faster, and go longer than ever before. And the improvements keep on coming. Because of Zach and Andrew I not only am in the best shape of my life, look fit, and feel more confident than ever but I truly have found a fitness program that I can dedicate myself to for the rest of my life. And that has been the greatest gift I could have ever received by joining the family at Crossfit Intensify. My only wish is that this testimonial will motivate someone else to make the same positive changes in their life.”
“I first joined CrossFit Intensify about 6 months ago. As a 42 year old woman that has always battled with my weight, and never been consistent with any exercise program, I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with or even complete the workouts. I was amazed by the support and encouragement that Andrew and Zach provided. They were able to scale down the workouts, and never made me feel like I was weak. They are great at teaching the proper technique to avoid injury. They also pushed me to go faster, lift more, jump higher, etc. So many times I would be thinking “I just can’t do that” and in the end, after I did do it, I would thank them for pushing me. It feels so good to finish something you didn’t think you could. I have joined other gyms in the past and have never even come close to the kind of workout I get here at CrossFit. The variety is great, and the competitiveness is fun (always trying to beat my last time or reps), the other members are also very encouraging and have never made me feel like I didn’t belong there, even though some are a lot younger than me. When I first started, I couldn’t run 400 meters without stopping. Now I’m running 5,000 meters without stopping! I have never liked running, so this is huge for me! With the nutritional counseling they provide I have lost almost 20 pounds since August. I also know that I’ve gained more muscle and overall strength. I have about 10-15 more pounds to lose, but I’m confident I’ll get there. CrossFit has definitely changed my life! I am committed to this life change as I feel better than ever! Thanks Andrew and Zach!”

“It’s been nearly 20 years since I worked out regularly. The reason that I worked out regularly was because I was playing collegiate rugby. When the rugby ended, so did the fitness program. I would join a gym now and then, buy a workout video or even a piece of exercise equipment, but try as I might I was never able to make exercise part of my busy daily routine.
My very first workout at CrossFit Intensify hooked me. The whiteboard spoke to the competitor in me. Everything and everyone was being recorded. It gave me a target to reach for. I was competing again! That gave me the reason I needed to get into a routine. The routine gave me results. And those results gave me even more reason to continue the routine.
CrossFit is now part of my life routine. I like how it makes me feel. There are 11 group workouts each day, so no matter what I have going on I can fit it into my schedule. There are travel versions of the workouts, so even when I travel for business or pleasure I can continue my routine and maintain my results.
Find your reason. Get into a CrossFit routine. Enjoy the results. Repeat. ”

“My wife, who had been CrossFitting for a few months at the time, asked me to come watch one day. After I agreed to watch, she talked me into trying a Saturday partner workout. I reluctantly accepted knowing that it was going to be scaled back. I was still unable to finish that workout. It opened my eyes to just how out of shape I have gotten. I signed up a few days later and have been going ever since. Every workout has been scaled and tailored to me so that not only is it a great workout but I can finish the workout.
3 months after signing up my scaled workouts are not as scaled as they used to be, and there has not been a workout that I could not finish (Very Happy about this). In 3 months, I have lost 25 lbs and 2 inches of the gut (also very happy with this). Already in this short time I feel better about myself, and know that I am healthier and stronger than before.
Besides my wife helping to motivate, the gym itself motivates me. The trainers are awesome and the support you get from the other members when doing the group workouts is outstanding. This also brings back the competitive nature in me as I compete against myself and the clock. It is not often that workouts repeat but when they do I always want to beat my previous mark! Another great thing that will drive you is there is always room to improve. Things that I could not even do 6 months ago I am doing now faster and stronger.”

“Crossfit has been life changing for me, from the way I look at fitness and nutrition. I started Crossfit nearly 6 months ago and I absolutely love it! It’s amazing the improvements and challenges your body and mind can undergo, some I thought were never possible. Crossfit is no doubt a challenge; there is always something to measure and something to improve, but at the end of every workout it’s so rewarding.
Zach and Andrew are awesome coaches! They will give you that extra push of encouragement that we all need some days, yet they know when to scale back the workout. Incredible stuff happens here!”

“I’ve been an athlete for the majority of my life, but it hasn’t been until recently that I’ve understood just how powerful both my mind and my body can be. I’m a firm believer that if you treat your body poorly, then your body will treat you poorly in return. CrossFit has given me the opportunity to say “I’m sorry” to myself and to find out what it’s like to be an athlete again. It’s a process…a painful one at times…but it’s fun as hell.”

“CrossFit Intensify has been a really positive force in my life. I started CrossFitting as soon as I moved into town 5 months ago, and it has been a great outlet for me, in terms of getting a great workout, making great friends, and challenging myself (and improving!) both mentally and physically. I never thought I’d be able to get personal records in so many different areas, from cleans to deadlifts to mile times, not to mention the benchmark workouts, in such a short time-frame.
Andrew and Zach are very flexible with my crazy school schedule, often accommodating me coming in at odd hours. They also offer customization and flexibility in their program, whether it’s because you want to work on something you’re bad at, there’s a fun/challenging workout you want to try, you’re injured or sore, or whatever the reason. I also really appreciate their accessibility. I can ask them their advice about nutrition, technique, training, competing, rest, etc. (which I do… probably a little too frequently) and they are ALWAYS willing to take the time to discuss my concerns. Additionally, they’ve been great about helping me with lifting technique, time-saving tactics, and proper form. I really appreciate their efforts to help me progress to a level where I can begin to really compete in this sport. Thanks, guys!”

“CrossFit Intensify has been one of the best gifts I have ever given myself. My biggest obstacle in getting fit has always been finding the motivation to get to the gym. They’re just so big and I never knew what to do. CrossFit has completely changed my perception of working out. The trainers are always so supportive and helpful.
Coming to the gym and seeing experienced members workout was a little intimidating at first, so the On-Ramp program was a really nice way to break myself in. Not only did Zach spend time to teach us the correct way to do each workout, but he also gave us really helpful nutrition tips. The four-week program got me used to the workouts and built up my confidence a little more everyday so that by the time I was joining the regular workouts, I felt right in place. Not to mention that by following the Paleo diet and coming to CrossFit three times a week I had lost 10 pounds by the end of the four weeks.
CrossFit has become one of the things that I plan my day around. If I can’t make it to my regular 7:30 PM session, I squeeze it in before AM classes. Not only can I see the changes in my body, I feel better every day. I have more energy, I’m more focused in class, and I’m in a better mood all the time. I’m excited to keep improving my fitness and to finally RX a pull-up some day. =)”

“Exercise is what I’ve always done to keep my life in balance. On March 11, 2009 I suffered a personal tragedy. It was by far the saddest day of my life. For the next 18 months I couldn’t bring myself to care about exercise or a healthy diet. I watched my weight increase and my fitness level rapidly decrease.
During this time a friend of mine, handed me a business card to a new gym, CrossFit Intensify. She mentioned the great results she was having and said I would love it and should give it a try….I promptly filed the card away, I wasn’t ready yet. I did however become “Friends” on Facebook with CrossFit Intensify and was able to track what the program was all about and the accomplishments some of the members were having. I was definitely intrigued. Eventually I wrote Zach an email asking if he thought I could do this, after all, as I explained to him, I was 50, incredibly out of shape and pretty embarrassed about it. He told me to come and check it out…I made an introductory appointment and the rest is as they say, history!
Thanks to Andrew, Zach, Krysta and the support of other members during my workouts the past few weeks, my fitness level has increased dramatically and the extra weight I gained is finally coming off, but most importantly I feel like I have begun to get my mojo back. The workouts are motivating, challenging, compact, and change on a daily basis. That’s not to say that I haven’t had plenty of “you want me to do what?” reactions to the WOD listed on the board. But usually those reactions get a response from Andrew of “you’ve got this Carrie.” Yep, with every workout I complete I feel like I “got this” just a little more!”

“CrossFit Intensify’s staff is the best, offering encouragement towards better fitness that is balanced with my abilities and age. I love the friendly atmosphere that welcomes people of all sizes, shapes, and fitness level. The group workout sessions are far more fun and effective than working out alone in a big box gym. Crossfit is great therapy after a hard day at work. And a good workout makes it easier to sleep, which is much more healthy than taking medication!”

“CFI has been so awesome and it’s completely changed the way I look at “exercising.” My running times and form have improved, my lifestyle is healthier and I’m starting to accept the way my body is built, and I love that. Andrew and Zach are awesome! Keep it up guys!”

“There has been no point in my life in which I have not had access to a gym. I consider myself knowledgeable in the area of health and fitness. Yet, I found myself 30 lbs overweight at age 25. I was paying under $20 a month at a “Big Box” gym. I dedicated myself to CrossFit Intensify in August 2010. Within 2 months I was back near peak physical condition. 6 months later I am still making gains. The CrossFit program is life-changing, and the people I’m doing it with are amazing! It is the best value I’ve ever received from any type of membership. Thank so much for everything!”

“CrossFit Intensify has added many positive things to my life. Increased strength and weight loss are only the obvious aspects. Group workout sessions with fellow CrossFitters and the personal attention from Zach and Andrew are big motivators to continue. The way CrossFit is able to scale WOD’s to any ability almost guarantees success. CrossFit Intensify also offers as part of their program nutritional information and detailed online fitness tracking. Both have been very helpful in my continued success. I would highly recommend CrossFit Intensify!”

“CrossFit has made a huge impact on my life in many ways. One of the biggest things for me is the way I feel and my self confidence. Exercising on a regular basis has really helped me feel great. I do not get frequent headaches anymore, I sleep like a baby, and I feel more energetic and alert during the day. I have also noticed that when you’re working so hard at an exercise program such as CrossFit it really makes you pay attention to what you are feeding your body. Therefore, I am eating way better. And it seems the better you eat and sleep, the better your performance at CrossFit. The better your performance and constant improvement, the more self confidence you gain. It seems to be a pleasant pattern. I truly believe that CrossFit and diet is a “cure all.” There are so many great things about CrossFit! I could keep going, but I will end by saying I for sure look better in my clothes (not to mention naked), and who doesn’t want that?????”

“I have been a competitive runner since I began high school in 1968. Since that time I have maintained what I thought was a high level of fitness, competing in the Olympic Trials twice and being rated as high as 12th in the country in my event. Since turning 40 years of age, I have won two National Age Group Championships and finished 3rd in a World Championship event. However, after joining CrossFit Intensify, I discovered that I didn’t know what fitness was. I was inflexible throughout my body, and had strength only in those muscles used to propel myself forward.
I started CrossFit in September to supplement my training for a marathon I had scheduled in December. I was well behind schedule because of an injury to my hamstring and degenerative osteo-arthritis in my ankle. As expected, the CrossFit training improved my overall strength. What I did not expect were the resulting improvements in my flexibility, posture, anaerobic capacity, and overall health and well-being. I ran my marathon in December, winning my age division by six minutes, in 2 hours, 49 minutes, much faster than I had expected I was capable of when I started training for that event.
In my 42-year competitive career, I have never done much strength work or stretching because I found it tedious and boring. In contrast, I have found CrossFit to be fun as well as strenuous. I look forward to each of the sessions and come away feeling like I have accomplished something. The instructors and fellow CrossFitters have been accepting, supportive, and encouraging. The instructors and more experienced athletes have provided valuable instruction in the mechanics of the exercises and have patiently guided me toward mastery in the many disciplines that are practiced. There is little repetition of workouts making each day a unique and exciting experience.
There is no elitism at the CrossFit Gym. The members who struggle with exercises using only the weight of the barbell are treated with as much respect as the experienced athletes who lift unbelievable amounts of weight. No one is looked down upon because they have to scale the recommended weight, length, or distance of any workout to fit their own abilities. Everyone is applauded, not just by the coaches, but by the other members as well, for their effort and for how their results compare to their previous efforts.
Even though I successfully reached and exceeded the goal I had set for my marathon, I have continued to workout at CrossFit. The fitness I have developed has provided me with a feeling of health, wellness and self-confidence that I have not felt in years, if ever. I have developed a sense of kinship with the coaches who train me and the athletes with whom I workout. I have invited all of my running partners to share in the benefit of CrossFit and those that have taken me up on the opportunity appear to be enjoying it just as much, or more, and are achieving equivalent benefits.”

“I competed in high level athletics through college and even a little while after and have had the chance to train with some world class strength coaches and amazing athletes along the way. Working out and staying in great shape was never a problem for me because it was the main focus of my days every day. If I wasn’t lifting and running I was just lifting, or just running, or plyo training, or kicking my butt in some other fashion. Unlike most people I had to find time for life within my workout schedule. Once my athletic career ended, I started my own business and family. Working out just didn’t have the same immediate importance in my life as did my other obligations…how things change. With the arrival of my first child, I pretty much gave up on the workout deal all together…what a mistake that was. In fact, I realized it was a mistake when I puked after a box jump, wall ball, weighted 400m run workout in Tucson, AZ while visiting friends. Sorry whoever was driving the blue Honda. Tires are easy to clean though. What an embarrassing wake-up call that was. That was March 2009.
In April 2009 I lost my father in a tragic kayaking accident. He always believed in his workouts as he had been a regular for 30 years only missing a handful during that time span. His dedication showed as he was probably the most bad-ass 64-year old around. A couple of weeks before he died he cranked out 20 something strict pull-ups on the bar in our garage and proceeded to show me how he could hang from his heels on the bar when he was done…had to rescue him from that one but did I mention he was 64! Needless to say after losing my dad I was a mess for a few months and didn’t really know what direction I was heading. After reflecting on my dad’s life, and realizing how important it was to be active, healthy, and as vibrant, I pulled my head out and realized that I was forty fat pounds overweight and completely missing the boat. I realized that I owed it to myself, my wife, and my kids to pull myself together and get back on track.
I officially dedicated myself to CrossFit in November of 2009. At first it was a humbling struggle just to show up. Although I was angry and embarrassed at my lack of performance, my general sucking of wind, scaling of workouts, and getting my butt kicked by my wife, I managed to stick with it. When I showed up for the first workout I could barely do 3 pull-ups, my knees, shoulders, back, lungs, legs, arms, (did I miss anything) hurt bad…It sucked!!! Gradually I either became numb to the pain or just got better. 9 months later I had dropped 40 pounds, could do 30+ pull-ups, and was no longer puking on tires. It is a shame that it took losing my father for me to realize that I needed to get my act together, but I feel good that I could at least take something away from the worst thing that has happened in my life and create one of the most positive things in my life. CrossFit afforded me the avenue to get in shape, lose 40 pounds (and counting), improve my relationships, daily energy, self esteem, and to do something that my father would be proud of. The variation of movements and workouts, quick pace (in and out in 1 hour or less), competitive environment, and great fitness environment make it difficult to find an excuse to miss a workout. It is an unparalleled fitness experience that I would encourage anyone to try regardless of condition, age, or skill. You can enter with lofty goals that, with dedication, can be achieved. Just keep in mind that you will be humbled along the way. Oh and by the way my wife is still kicking my butt although it is not nearly as lopsided now…. beating her happens to be one of my lofty goals.”
